In electronics, a digital-to-analog converter (DAC, D/A, D2A or D-to-A) is a system that converts a digital signal to an analog signal. An analog-to-digital converter (ADC) performs the reverse function. You can test many DACs in our Warsaw store

There are several DAC architectures; the suitability of a DAC for a specific application is determined by values including: resolution and maximum sampling rate. Digital-to-analog conversion can degrade the signal, so you should choose a DAC that has high audio parameters.

DACs are commonly used in music players to convert digital data streams to analog audio signals. They are also used in TVs and mobile phones to convert digital video data to analog video signals.

Due to their complexity and the need for precisely matched components, all but the most specialized DACs are implemented as integrated circuits (ICs). They usually take the form of mixed-signal metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) integrated circuits that integrate both analog and digital circuits.

Discrete DACs (circuits built from many discrete electronic components rather than a packaged integrated circuit) would typically be very fast, low-resolution, power-hungry types, such as those used in military radar systems. Very fast test equipment, especially sampling oscilloscopes, may also use discrete DACs.
