Home cinema receiver - what is it?
A home cinema receiver is a device that is a multi-channel receiver. It usually consists of a radio tuner, a DSP processor, surround sound decoders, and five or more power amplifiers. An AV receiver is an alternative to stereo receivers.
Stereo receiver or AV receiver?
In the case of a home cinema set, we always talk about an AV receiver, it is the heart of the entire audiovisual system. Only such an receiver allows for 5.1 or 7.1 channel sound. Thanks to it, we can experience the transfer of sound quality from a professional cinema to the comfort of home. Multi-channel sound, often also referred to colloquially as surround sound, allows the listener to feel as if they were in the center of the action happening on the screen.
Stereo receivers will not give you surround sound or improve the quality of the displayed image, but they are chosen because of their much higher sound quality.
So when deciding on the choice of receiver, you need to answer the following question - do I watch more movies and series, or rather listen to music?
